What to do if asbestos is found on board?
Depending on certain factors, there are different ways to handle asbestos on board ships. It is important that the handling of asbestos-containing materials is described in an Asbestos Maintenance & Management Plan, and compliance with this plan is monitored by a responsible, specially trained, and authorized person.
In consultation with the respective flag states, management measures can be taken that result in an exemption, or the vessel may need to be decontaminated of asbestos-containing materials. We always seek the most efficient approach and identify the safest option for each vessel.
We will be happy to prepare the Asbestos Maintenance & Management Plan required for the exemption permit for submission to the flag and will always be happy to assist you with any queries the flag may have in this regard.
If required or unavoidable, we will plan the asbestos decontamination with you and our experienced partners.
We will work with you to develop possible measures and support you from planning to implementation.
